Pazo de Señorans

We slowly approached the Pazo that I wished to see again. The Pazo, whose wines I have written about, drank, and included in one of my books. It was like meeting an old friend you haven't seen for ages, bet when you do meet, you feel like you parted yesterday. We walked in the yard, slowly moving towards the vineyards, and I felt enormous gratitude for being here in this breathtaking place that was stunning years ago but has become even better with age (like people and wine). Some places still looked the same: houses had more vines on them, trees were taller and grander, some cars here and there, lots of new flowers everywhere, and the same a rosemary bushes and full chestnut trees.

I walked with our group, but I felt like I was alone in my own world. After our visit, we stepped into the house and at that moment I thought, yes, if there is going to be a third wedding with my husband, it will be here. I could, of course, share with you all the details of the house, family, and place, but you will never experience that feeling unless you come here, either for your or someone else’s wedding, a party, or just for a winery visit.

Pazo de Señorans is a very small family winery, and it all started when the father of the family, a doctor, wanted to buy a property outside the city where he could relax from the daily hustle and bustle. Finding this beautiful property in the Rías Baixas region, near the city of Cambados, he bought it. But since the property was large, he had to find a way to use it. Kiwi trees were planted around the vineyards for cultivation, but he soon realized that the grapes on the property had very good potential. Consequently, the kiwi trees were removed and replaced by Albariño grape vines, and then it was time to find time for the first harvest, which was excellent from the start. Over the years, like polished jewels, it has become even better, breaking stereotypes that Albariño is only drinkable when young. The 2014 wine tasting proved that a good, elegant, and high-quality Albariño with the perfect soil, climate and winemaker and lees (because it is aged for a long time on lees) can be something more than just a wine for one year or for a quick aperitif. "At the moment, the house is also experimenting with oak-aged wine, as well as 15-year-old fortified wine, which is only available in a few hundred bottles.

Sitting at their large table with the winemaker, tasting one wine after another, Pazo Señoran proved once again that you can fall head over heels in love with Albariño wine and that this elegant wine is good as aperitif and gourmet.
