Hungary. The Foundry Suites

The moment I knew we were going to Athens, I wanted to find the best place possible for us to stay – someplace unique, stylish, intimate, and personal. Something with a character and a story. And, preferably, in the center. Google offered me endless possibilities, but none of them were ones I intended to enjoy my first time in Greece. In a world where there are so many possibilities – pictures, Instagram, Facebook – one can get lost in the wide selection of accommodations. Yet, the saying is true – seek and you shall find. So, I did.

Meet The Foundry Suites - a unique hotel located in the center of Athens, yet away from all the busy streets. The terrace, overlooking Athens and Acropolis, is where you will start your day, no matter how tempting breakfast in bed you’re your room might be because the view you have from the roof is one of a kind. You can watch people enjoying Acropolis at nine in the morning while indulging in breakfast – one of the four the hotel offers - local, continental, vegan, and kids –served in a basket for you to enjoy. If not for the end of breakfast time, it could be a place to stay for a day, yet you leave when it's time to go.

The rooms at The Foundry Suites are organized in small or larger apartments with a kitchen, sofa, bed/s, amazingly large windows, and some rooms even have a terrace. You can enjoy a romantic evening for two or a larger family gathering. You can admire art and furniture, and every detail is presented in the best possible way. Industrial windows, iconic design samples, rustic interior, and a touch of Athens - it is all there.

This is an oasis in the middle of the city that you might as well stay at all the time, enjoying breakfast in the morning, wine from the cellar at lunch, and cocktails and pizza on the roof in the evening (including taking showers, playing the piano, or listening to music the rest of the time). But, if you do decide to walk about, they will provide a map, taxi, or whatever your heart desires.

Places around The Foundry Suites to visit:
For a very local and unique experience and where wine is served in small water glasses and food from the heart, head to Kafeneio Ivis.
For a fantastic dining experience served by locals and with local, seasonal produce, head to Seychelles Restaurant.
For excellent coffee (there are many options in Athens, but these are the closest), head to Dope Roasting.
For a unique and delicious croissant, experience Heat Overall. (Try their spinach and feta roll).
For our favorite wine bar, which serves mainly local and natural wine and some snacks, meat, and cheese is Heteroclito.
