Even after an 8-month friendship, every time I open this beautiful bottle, it feels like it still sends a message in the bottle; I cannot stop admiring its uniqueness, its beauty, and those glorious notes this bottle holds. I remember giving this bottle as a gift to a friend who does not enjoy cognac that much, but she could not stop opening the bottle and shifting it every minute or so. And yes, that is just the first part of falling in love with this wonderful cognac salt from cognac.
This product is a love story of two local and almost most famous products of the Charente-Maritime region, i.e. La Fleur de Sel de l’Île de Ré and XO cognac. While the cognac plays the main character on the aroma side, the salt gets to play the main role in taste. Taste that is unique and so particular only to these bottles.
Prior to indulging in this beautiful product, do open the bottle like you would open a message from a lover. Slowly and with excitement. Bring it closer to your nose and inhale. Slowly and with love, and while doing that, remember how much work has been put into making XO cognac and harvesting this fine slat. And only then use it. On foie gras, on goat cheese, on bread with butter, burrata or mozzarella, simple cucumber salad with oil, white fish, and grilled steak.
